Welcome to the Roman leg of the Rock Art Tour '06! Technically none of this is specifically Roman, or very little of it is. What it is is a showcase involving a selection of petroglyphs, pictographs, megaliths and other cave or rock art found around the Mediterranean area and in Italy, Spain, Portugal and northern Africa (mainly Libya and Algeria). Sounds varied we know, but all of these locations co-mingled and intertwined with each other in this region's prehistory. But don't let that imply that all the rock art you'll find here is uniform in style. They couldn't be more varied! Images of the hunt, gods, spiritual offerings and even some mysterious spiral symbolism can be found within. Wondering just what is a petroglyph? Visit Wikopedia's explanation.

A special thank you from all of us in the Roman world to Mangas Cochise for this tour's brilliant concept and aid in set up, and to Fedelm Cruithni for an extraordinary amount of work collecting information and images. Thank you both!
